Showman who meant so much to so many people

So sad to hear about the death of the legend that is David Bowie.

I use the word ‘is’ as I can’t accept that he is gone from this world and it seems that I’m not alone in this sentiment.

Andrea Natella from Rome took this a step further when he started a petition on change.org for God to ’send him back to Earth’!

This feels like an unprecedented reaction to the loss of an icon and rather odd when you think about it.

Why is it so hard for us to accept this talented man’s mortality?

He always had a unique quality – yes, perhaps even alien – and was as far from mundanity as is conceptually possible.

A master of reinvention, Bowie had a ‘superhuman’ imagination and mastery of putting this into attractive and enduring forms.

It still staggers me just how he managed to create, not only great music, but also personas to go with it. Moreover, his ability to perpetually change in a way that was way ahead of the times.

Huge Bowie fan, Italian film director, Michele Alberto Chironi, says, “When I first heard his voice, as a youngster, I thought it like the voice of an alien. Robotic. Really strange and powerful.”

Michele has been inspired by Bowie throughout his own career and loves the originality and other-worldly quality that he inspires.

There ‘s another side to this longevity of reinvention.

Perhaps one reason we’re so sad is that he was always there; a fascinating backdrop as our lives play out.

Perhaps it reassured us that in this crazy world, there was another layer of meaning to our lives, as he presented to us.

We followed him though his many phases from Spaceman to showman and marvelled at his creativity.

And, let’s not forget the sheer bravery that accompanied all this.

He unbolted a door and set us free to be ourselves, whatever form that took.

Since his death, everything he ever did has taken on a poignant hue.

His impact on people is unquestionable.

However, I have a feeling he’s still out there somewhere creating his next masterpiece and watching over us with his boundless imagination.

Perhaps he really was ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’... It really would not surprise me!
