Report any problem potholes you may find

One of the largest mailbags I have which relates to an issue not in my remit as a Member of Parliament is the condition of the roads locally.

Driving around the area you do not need to drive far before you come across a pothole. I do not think it is acceptable for there to be as many potholes, not least for the damage they can do to people’s vehicles.

I have always said you can judge the effectiveness of a local authority by the state of its roads and at the moment Lancashire County Council are falling behind their duty to the people in Morecambe and Lunesdale.

I recently asked a Parliamentary question about this and was told there is now a fund worth £250m called the pothole action fund which councils across the country can apply to tackle their potholes.

The funding is allocated according to how detailed and effective the plans are from councils about how they plan to manage their potholes and I believe £1m has been allocated to Lancashire for this purpose for the coming financial year.

The £1m pot will be able to repair thousands of potholes across Lancashire, and I would urge any of you who have potholes in your area to report them via the county council to ensure they get repaired.

Recently released unemployment figures show unemployment in Morecambe and Lunesdale has fallen by 35 per cent since February 2010.

I am delighted the unemployment level in Morecambe and Lunesdale is now only 3.3 per cent of the economically active population.

I welcome further investment locally to improve this figure every further and believe the opening of the link road and the opening of the Frontierland project on the promenade will impact these figures even further.
