Last week in Parliament I was able to attend an exhibition organised by UCLAN showcasing research projects by 25 universities across the country and to be asked at the last minute to be part of the judging team was quite an honour.

The under graduates had been asked to design a poster to explain their research topic and then answer our questions as they fronted up their particular poster.

It was great to see a local university UCLAN organising a competition new to this country, in that it was aimed at under graduates rather than graduates. Having learnt something from digital displays to dead pigs – we agreed on a winner from Sussex University on “dark matter”.

It is a different world to when I went to University.

Here in Lancaster I called in to a local company based at the Infolab 21 at Lancaster University called TNP – the Networking People.

The purpose of this visit was to find out a little more about this enterprise and also present them with a BSI ISO270001 certification for Information Security Management.

This relatively new company is clearly going from strength to strength providing networking solutions to their clients including local authorities as far afield as the Shetlands.

I also managed to get across to the 3-1-5 Health Club to have a look around and also celebrate The Bay Radio’s 21st Birthday.

It was fantastic to see this great health and leisure facility up and running again and I was very interested in their X-Force Gym equipment which offers a unique way of burning fat and building muscle.

The atmosphere at the club is clearly designed to make even novices to health and fitness welcome and was a gentle reminder to myself that I really should be doing more when I get time.

As always, please contact me if I can be of any help. I represent everyone that lives in Lancaster regardless of how or whether you vote.
