Firstly, I would like to congratulate William and Kate on behalf of the whole Morecambe and Lunesdale constituency for the safe arrival of their baby boy.
This is really excellent news.
I was also pleased to hear last week that the Chancellor will offer tax breaks for shale gas extraction.
This is something I support.
Also behind the scenes I am currently working on a community compensation scheme to ensure that disruption to communities is limited during the initial set-up.
As I said on BBC Radio Five Live on Friday to John Inverdale, I think shale gas exploration and nuclear power is much more favourable than on shore wind farms which my constituents especially those in the Lune Valley are against.
Also last week there was a debate about whether MPs should have second jobs.
I have to say that although I was a hairdresser prior to being elected as your MP, I do not have a second job.
I find working as a full-time MP and as a dad, travelling between London and Morecambe and Lunesdale takes up all of my time.
I did make the point in the House of Commons that David Milliband was the vice-chairman of Sunderland FC earning a reported £175,000 salary from the football club.
I respect David greatly and I think being the VC of the football club benefitted his constituency and he shouldn’t be expected to do that work for free.
I imagine the debate on whether MPs should have a second job will continue.
My next advice surgery is this Friday, July 26, at the Heysham Primary Care Centre.
