I know from my inbox that many of you are concerned that the Trans Atlantic Trade Partnership (TTIP) would lead to the privatisation of the NHS by American companies.
I would like to reassure you that there is no evidence to suggest that TTIP would affect the NHS in any way.
This week I participated in health questions and raised this concern. Jeremy Hunt MP Secretary of State for Health said:
“The Government will not allow TTIP negotiations to harm the NHS. This is scaremongering and it is wrong to scaremonger about something as important as the NHS. To suggest the NHS is being privatised is fiction.”
Please be aware of the scaremongering campaigners and if there are any claims they make you are unsure of please contact my office and I will fact check the claims for you.
The Government have announced £2.3 billion of investment into flood defences.
As the Chairman of the Coastal and Marine APPG, I have been lobbying the Government for flood defence funding over the last 12 months.
Morecambe’s sea front bucked the trend as I had already secured £10m in the first round of funding.
This week I had a meeting in Parliament with First Trans Pennine ahead of the formal bid submissions on the Furness train line.
Although the competition franchise rules prevent the companies from revealing the details of their plans they can come and speak with stakeholders and listen to their concerns.
One of the main concerns I raised was the worry that as part of the line is being electrified the northern part of the line will experience an inferior service.
I stressed that in Carnforth that demand for train services to Manchester Airport would only increase and that the services should stay the same frequency or increase.
I also stressed the importance of services to Silverdale Rail station remaining the same and pressed for further services there should there be a gap in the timetable.
