A few weeks ago in this column, I thanked local man Steve Trainor who masterminded the poppy scatter. The idea was to scatter poppy seeds to ensure that poppies were in full bloom at Happy Mount Park to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.
Due to the success, Steve would like to expand the scatter so if you would like poppies to be scattered near to where you live please contact Steve for more details – his website address is www.poppyscatter.co.uk.
I was really pleased to hear over the weekend that the Government has issued new guidance to NHS Trusts about how much they should charge for car parking.
This move has come as a result of a campaign by my good friend and colleague Robert Halfon, the MP for Harlow.
He has campaigned tirelessly to reduce hospital car parking charges, a campaign I have fully supported and I am pleased that the Government has listened to patients and has issued this guidance which I hope will reduce the cost of parking.
Next year marks the 800th anniversary of King John signing the Magna Carta in 1215 at Runnymede.
For those who are not aware, I am a member of the political and constitutional reform committee.
We are currently consulting on a Magna Carta style written constitution which, if implemented, would modernise our political system in this country. Currently, we have an unwritten constitution based on laws and so-called conventions of Parliament such as the Ministerial Code.
Should you wish to participate in the consultation you can take a look at the Select Committee website at www.parliament.uk/business.
My colleagues and I would be delighted to hear your views.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to come to one of my summer tour advice surgeries. The next one is on Thursday, August 28 at Morrisons store in Morecambe starting at 2pm.
My survey is currently being distributed all over the constituency.
