I would like to start this weeks column by congratulating everyone who yet again organised and put on an excellent Morecambe Beer Festival at the Winter Gardens, the event was superb.
I had a good day there and it was nice to see so many people in the Winter Gardens.
The latest unemployment figures were published towards the end of last week and again there is good news here in Morecambe and Lunesdale with unemployment once again reducing.
The number of claimants is 512 lower than in July 2013 and 47 lower than in June 2014 which means more people are in work bringing home a pay packet which is excellent news.
I am pleased that the Prime Minister has announced this week that there will be a pilot of placing age ratings on music videos.
This is something that I support and have been campaigning for.
The pilot will begin in October and has the support of the music industry.
Those watching music videos on websites such as YouTube will be advised of the age rating before the video can be viewed.
I was disappointed to see that a ship collided with a wind turbine last week, I have been saying for a long time that if off shore wind turbines are being built, they should be built well away from shipping lanes.
As I understand it nobody was injured this time but the industry must take note and learn lessons from this incident.
Thank you to the coastguard and the lifeboat crews who did a magnificent job in difficult conditions.
