I was pleased to see that youth unemployment is now lower than it was when I was elected in May 2010 which is good news, it is always pleasing to see young people in the constituency getting into work.

On Friday I was pleased to welcome Government Minister and Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party Rt. Hon. Grant Shapps MP to Carnforth.

Grant visited Havwoods on Carnforth Business Park.

Havwoods is a really excellent business supplying wood flooring all over the UK and exporting to Australia.

Some of Havwoods clients include chains such as Starbucks, Pret a Manger and the Jamie Oliver restaurant chain.

Thank you to Mr. Oliver and the team at Havwoods for making us so welcome.

The Chancellor delivered his budget last week, there are a number of announcements that will benefit us here in Morecambe & Lunesdale, in particular, from 2015/16 the rise of the income tax personal allowance to £10,500 which means an average rate income tax payer will pay around £800 less.

This will lift 31,000 people in the North West out of income tax and 2,680,000 will see an average real terms gain of £62.

The Annual Investment Allowance has been doubled to £500,000.

This will run until the end of 2015. I visited a business in the constituency last week and as a result of the increase in the annual investment
allowance this particular business has already advertised for a new member of staff which is good news for our local economy.

For savers, the ISA limit has been raised to £15,000 which could benefit 674,000 ISA holders in the North West and cutting the savings income tax to zero on up to £5,000 could benefit up to 157,000 savers in the North West.
