We have a busy week ahead in Parliament, on Wednesday afternoon the Chancellor will deliver the budget.

I will eagerly wait to hear what the Chancellor says. I have no doubt that you will read about it in the Lancaster Guardian next week.

Earlier this week, the Prime Minister announced a major new childcare package that will help 380,000 hard working people in the North West.

The Governments’ new Tax-Free Childcare scheme will provide 20 per cent support on childcare costs up to £10,000 per year for each child via a new simple online system. The limit had previously been set at £6,000.

This now means support of up to £2,000 per child per year.

In addition, to help more families move off benefits and into employment, the Government also announced that it will cover the 85 per cent of childcare costs for around 300,000 families receiving Universal Credit, making sure work always pays.

The third round of bidding for Coastal Communities funding has now opened, there is a total pot of £64 Million available during 2014–2017 to charities, voluntary and community sector organisations, social enterprises, local authorities, local enterprise partnerships and private companies.

The Government has made funding available of amounts more than £50,000 for projects lasting longer than two years exclusively to coastal communities such as ours. The closing date for applications is April 30.

Previously the Morecambe Bay Partnership has been allocated coastal communities funding for projects that will benefit the whole of Morecambe Bay.

Thank you to Oliver and the team at Havwoods for making me welcome last week, they supply wood flooring from Carnforth to some of the best known companies in the UK. Havwoods have also recently opened branches in Australia and they export from Carnforth to Australia.
