To pass my driving test: my goal for 2016

It's that time of year where we resolve to make changes to our lives, knowing full well we have little chance of fulfilling those promises. Indeed, more resolutions will have already been broken than remain intact.

I find it difficult to believe another year has passed as it seems like only yesterday I was facing the same predicament of what resolutions I could make.

My friends, and indeed those who read this column, may recall I made two resolutions last year, one in the negative and one in the positive. That’s how I see it as one was something I hoped to stop doing and the other was something I hoped to achieve.

The thing I resolved to stop doing was smoking. I accept that I have given up smoking previously and have returned to the wicked weed in times of stress. No excuse, but it’s a fact, so I know just how difficult it is to give up.

I, as the case with so many people, decided I would stop smoking on New Years Eve, and managed to do so for less than 24 hours. Nevertheless, I was determined to give up this time and am really pleased to say I stopped smoking in October, the 24th to be precise.

I know for certain that I will never smoke again, and I am really proud of that fact. I feel much better in myself and know my health has improved. For any smokers out there who resolve to stop this year, I wish you all the best.

The positive I hoped to achieve was to pass my driving test. Unfortunately, I have not managed to do so, but I genuinely believe things conspired against me so it was not meant to be.

There’s no need to go into the details, but I do know I will hold a full, and hopefully clean, driving licence by this time next year. That’s my main personal goal for the coming year and I’m determined to achieve it.

I know I will, and would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody success in fulfilling their resolutions. I also hope we all have a happy, and prosperous 2016.
