Could your street benefit from a spring clean?

Lancaster City Council is calling for people to nominate areas to take part in the next round of Street Pride events across the district.

The aim of Street Pride is to smarten up neighbourhoods and put pride back into our communities.

Services provided include street cleaning, gully emptying, minor highway repairs and weeding.

There may be different reasons why you might nominate for a ‘Street Pride’ event. It may be that the area has fallen into disrepair, or it may be that it cannot usually be tidied because of parked cars.

Street Pride doesn’t replace the regular cleaning programme, but rather complements it in areas that may not otherwise be able to be targeted.

It also gives residents the chance to get involved.

Coun David Smith, Cabinet member for Environmental Services, said: “Getting the community involved with Street Pride is key to helping to make it a success. And it doesn’t stop with nominating the areas that we will be targeting – everyone has a part to play in keeping our district clean.

“If your street hasn’t been chosen, you can still play your part by helping to organise a community litter pick or other event to build some pride in your area and to help keep the streets clean.

“By working together, and each doing our part, we can help to make our district a cleaner and healthier place to live.”

To nominate a street to take part in the scheme contact your local councillor – details can be found by visiting www.lancaster.gov.uk/mylocation and typing in your postcode. As roads taking part will be closed for the duration of the works those on a bus route cannot be nominated.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, November 27.

Lancaster City Council can provide help and advice on how you can organise your own community clean-ups, along with equipment for litter picks. And once your clean-up is complete we’ll come and take the rubbish away for you.
