The property on Hampton Road in Morecambe has been ravaged by fire, has a huge hole in the roof and is boarded up which is an eyesore for residents.

People squat in there, children play in the building and rubbish is constantly being dumped in the yard, according to neighbours who also say birds and rats live in the house, presenting a health hazard.

Next door neighbour Katy Baxter, 32, a full-time mum to two sons Alfie, eight and a half and seven-month-old Henry, said: “People are using the yard as their personal skip.

“There are nappies in the yard, as well as syringes and beer bottles. We share a yard wall but people have been dropping rubbish in my yard. “Environmental health have to come and clear out the yard.

“Ever since the fire happened over four years ago, it has been so long and nothing has been done.Kids are using it as a playground. The windows were smashed front and back and the house was boarded up but kids still get inside. People are squatting in there.

“There is a hole in the roof which the rain has been going in for four and a half years. There is so much damp seeping into my house.

“I want to sell my house or rent it out but I can’t - I’m ashamed when people come round because of next door.”

A spokesman for Lancaster City Council said: “The council has had numerous dealings with this property over the last few years in order to try and deal with the issues it is causing for the neighbourhood.

“In March we visited to board it up as it had become insecure and twice in 2015 work was carried out to remove rubbish from the rear yard.

“We are currently looking at the legal options available to us to resolve the issues surrounding the property and the effects on its neighbours.”
