CITY councillors this week voted to further investigate the idea of moving Lancaster Market into the Lancaster City Museum, despite opposition from local groups.
The Friends of Lancaster City Museum and Lancaster Civic Society wrote to raise concerns ahead of Lancaster City Council’s cabinet meeting this week.
The Friends said they believed there was not enough room for the market “without seriously compromising” the museum.
They raised fears the move would “dumb down” the museum and could eventually see it move to Lancaster Castle following the closure of the prison.
They also expressed concern about a possible extension of the Grade II* listed council-owned building into New Street Square.
