Stories in brief

BBC series set in Kirkby Lonsdale

The first episode of the BBC series Jamaica Inn, which was partly filmed in Kirkby Lonsdale, was screened on Easter Monday.

The series culminates today Wednesday, at 9pm.

The town’s market square was filmed last October.

Series of volunteer events

Nature-loving volunteers are needed over the coming months to help monitor some of the amazing wildlife in Morecambe Bay.

From April until June, the Morecambe Bay Limestones and Wetlands Nature Improvement Area Partnership is hosting a series of events where volunteers will help to survey the plants and animals at local nature hotspots. No experience is needed as all of the necessary training will be provided. Currently, there is a lot of nature conservation work being carried out in the Arnside and Silverdale as part of the Morecambe Bay Nature Improvement Area. On Thursday, April 24 and again on Thursday, May 22, volunteers will be measuring how this work is helping its precious wildlife. Call 01524 703014.

Staff needed at hospital trust

A major recruitment campaign has been launched for staff to support Children and Young People’s services across University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. The campaign, which aims to recruit the equivalent of 21.48 full-time staff, is aimed at both registered children’s nurses and support workers. Paula Evans, Assistant Chief Nurse for Children and Young People at the Trust said: “We are looking for a mixture of staff across our children’s services. This will include registered children’s nurses as well other professionals such as play specialists, or clinical support workers to support our nursing teams on either the wards, in outpatient clinics or in our assessment rooms.

This is a major campaign to recruit the staff we need to continue improvements.”
