National environmental charity Friends of the Earth are urging Lancashire County Council to take a leaf out of New York’s book over fracking.
Friends of the Earth campaigner Tony Bosworth said that the county council “must reject” planning applications to allow fracking at two sites in the county following New York State’s decision to ban the controversial process over “significant public health risks”.
Lancashire County Council is due to decide on fracking applications at Roseacre and Preston New Road in January.
Mr Bosworth added: “Lancashire County Council must not ignore New York State’s decision to ban fracking because of health fears.
“Fracking applications in Lancashire and elsewhere must be rejected until the impacts this deeply controversial technology has on our health, environment and climate have been fully assessed.”
