A long-standing Lancaster business has re-opened at its original premises following the devastating effects of the December flooding.

Simply Baby was forced to relocate from North Road to New Street when Storm Desmond hit, as the shop was so badly damaged that it needed a complete refurbishment.

Owner Julie Shaw said: “It has been difficult, the storm had an enormous impact in the area and we were one of many businesses affected by it. We had no choice but to let the shop dry out for a couple of months and relocate. It has been a very lengthy process, but we’re getting back on our feet now. You just have to brush yourself off and pick yourself up again. Things have been so busy over the last few months that there hasn’t really been any time to reflect on it too much.

“My staff members have been absolutely fantastic. They have been completely committed and focused around the clean-up and relocation and I am so grateful for all their help – I couldn’t have done it without them.

“Luckily we have some amazing loyal customers and they have been really supportive. We’ve also had a lot of support from the local community, including Lancaster BID (Business Improvement District), the Flood Recovery Centre and Cumberland Building Society who actually contacted us and offered the assistance of a member of their staff to help us clean up.”

An official launch event with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme is to be held on Saturday April 30 to mark the re-opening.

Julie said: “It’s going to be a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme, and there will be ‘mad’ offers, giveaways and much more to celebrate our launch.

“It’ll be the perfect chance for our customers, old and new, to come along and see the newly refurbished shop and all of our fantastic stock.

“The flooding might’ve changed some things, but it hasn’t changed the fact that we’re still the same great team, and we stock the same great brands.

“The positive side of all this is that it has given us the opportunity to reflect on the brands we currently stock and review the range. We’re proud to stock our strong core brands and we’re excited about also stocking some new and exciting brands in the future.”
