McDonalds are looking to open a new restaurant in Morecambe.

Lancaster City Council cabinet has agreed to sell part of a car park on Central Drive to the fast food giants for a new takeaway.

The land in question is part of the Festival Market car park next to the Central Drive/Hillmore Way (Morrisons) roundabout.

A spokesman for McDonald’s said: “We continue to work with the council on our plans for a new restaurant in Morecambe.

“If approved the restaurant would create over 65 full and part-time jobs for the local community.”

A Lancaster City Council spokesman said: “Capacity on the car park will reduce by approximately 24%.”

The land has been deemed “surplus to requirements” by the council.

The decision to dispose of the land was approved by Lancaster City Council cabinet at a meeting last Tuesday.

McDonald’s already has restaurants in Lancaster city centre and on Morecambe Road.

In January 2015, the city council gave planning permission for a new McDonald’s on Caton Road, Lancaster but no work has begun.
