A spokesman for McDonald’s said: “We continue to work with the council on our plans for a new restaurant in Morecambe.

“If approved the restaurant would create over 65 full and part-time jobs for the local community.”

A Lancaster City Council spokesman said: “Capacity on the car park will reduce by approximately 24%.”

The land has been deemed “surplus to requirements” by the council.

McDonald’s already has restaurants in Lancaster city centre and on Morecambe Road.

In January 2015, the city council gave planning permission for a new McDonald’s on Caton Road, Lancaster but no work has begun.
