Set up by Roy Smith and Kath McDonald, King Street Studios is nearly one year old. They are a not-for- profit organisation run for the purpose of offering affordable studio spaces and a rolling programme of exhibitions, with the aim of bringing the work of local, regional and national artists engaged in the visual and creative arts at all stages of their careers to new audiences through a curated gallery experience.

Roy Smith said: “To celebrate our first birthday we wanted to showcase some of the amazing local creative talent. “We called the exhibition LA Summer to reference the local postcode area.”

Kath McDonald explained: “After working over some amazingly hot summer days we finally completed the hanging of the LA Summer Exhibition. Out of that shimmering heat we are pleased to say we have a shimmering array of works; it really is a red hot show!”

There’s everything from paintings, printmaking, drawings, assemblages, photography, mosaic, ceramics, and works on glass and on textile, with over 140 works all showcased across both gallery spaces. Go along and celebrate Lancaster’s possible answer to the Royal Academy’s Summer exhibition.

The exhibition continues until September 8, every Friday and Saturday, 11am – 5.30pm; or other times by appointment, Call the studios on King Street on 07743238663 for more information.
