New boss takes over at Heysham 1 power station

A mainstay of Heysham Power Stations has earned the top job at Heysham 1.

Richard Bradfield is the new Heysham 1 station director replacing Ian Stewart who has moved on to pastures new.

Mr Bradfield has spent his engineering career in the nuclear industry, starting at Calder Hall in 1987.

Two years later he joined Heysham 2 and spent six years on the site before moving to Oldbury to work with the company’s training team.

In 1997 Richard returned to Heysham 2 and carried out a number of roles before becoming operations manager in 2003. He then took on the plant manager roles at Hartlepool, Heysham 1 and finally at Heysham 2 in 2015.

Ian Stewart has moved on to Dungeness B power station in Kent.

Mr Bradfield said: “Ian will be missed at Heysham 1 after spending many years here.

“I am really looking forward to taking on the station director role at the site as I already know the people and the place really well from my time here as the plant manager.

“It is an exciting time for the station as we have just had its operating life extended to 2024 which is great news for the staff here and also the community.

“Heysham 1 plays a key role locally, supporting around 750 jobs and that alone is an annual wage bill of around £40m.”
