Wildlife of Morecambe Bay celebrated in new exhibition at library
The wildlife of Morecambe Bay, from rock pools to birdlife, is celebrated in a new exhibition at Morecambe Library.
Artist Catriona Stamp specialises in the landscape and wildlife of the north-west producing collages and small sculptural works.
In her search for inspiration she has spent time rock pooling near Heysham, watching birds at RSPB Leighton Moss, as well as walking around the bay and in the local countryside.
Catriona said: “I’ve always enjoyed being in nature, taking time to notice and learn about what I see and hear.
“These moments of observation and connection are at the heart of my work. I try to capture something of the beauty, atmosphere and emotional experience and to share that with others.”
She added: “Spending time in nature also helps me manage anxiety and depression, and that has shaped my understanding of how powerful the natural world can be in supporting wellbeing.”
“Creating art from these experiences is a joyful process for me, and I hope that people who visit the exhibition, share some of that joy, peace and wonder.”
The free exhibition ‘Celebration of Nature’ will be at Morecambe Library, Central Drive, Morecambe, LA4 5DL from November 16 until December 12.
To accompany the exhibition, Catriona will be giving a free talk called, ‘My Inspiration and Process’ at the library on Saturday November 21 from 3pm until 4pm.
The exhibition is part of ‘Open Spaces 2026’ a global artist-led exhibition initiative organised by UK’s Visual Artists Association that transforms everyday spaces into vibrant art experiences – from
cafes, studios and shop windows to digital venues and community hubs.
