Heysham primary school closes due to gas leak

A Heysham primary school has had to close due to a gas leak.

Trumacar Community Primary School put a notice on Facebook about an ‘unavoidable school closure’ on May 18 because of a gas leak.

The school said: “Once the repairs have been completed and the school has been made safe we will reopen. We are hoping this will be Friday.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire’s gas emergency service Cadent said: “We were called out to a report of a smell of gas this week and found a leak on a pipe.

“Our teams quickly isolated it (stopped the flow of gas into the school) which made everything safe.

“Today, they are putting in a new pipe so that the school has the gas it needs for heating, hot water and cooking facilities.

“Everyone’s been kept safe and the issue is being resolved.

“If you smell gas, day or night, always act immediately and call the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999.”
