LIVE screenings of National Theatre plays are proving so popular that a Lancaster cinema is now providing encores.
Both screenings at the Dukes on Moor Lane in March – The Comedy of Errors and She Stoops to Conquer – have sold out.
The Comedy of Errors was beamed live from The National on March 1 and starred Lenny Henry in a version of Shakespeare’s famous play set in the contemporary world. A recorded version of the play will be screened at the Lancaster cinema on April 1 at 4pm.
She Stoops to Conquer is another classic play which has already proved a draw in Lancaster.
The National Theatre’s new production will be screened live at The Dukes on March 29, but tickets sold out so quickly that an encore recorded version will be presented at 2pm on March 31.
A spokesman for the Dukes said: “Oliver Goldsmith’s play is a celebration of chaos, courtship and the dysfunctional family.
“It stars Katherine Kelly in her first stage role since she left Coronation Street where she played Becky McDonald.
“The Dukes has been receiving performances beamed live from the National Theatre since the scheme began.
“They soon became very popular and encore screenings began last year with One Man, Two Guv’nors starring James Corden.”
Tickets for encore screenings cost £13/£12 (concessions).
Seating is allocated and can be booked at the Dukes box office on 01524 598500 or online at www.dukes-lancaster.org.
