Name to be chosen for the Heysham M6 link road

Do you have a suggestion for a name for the Heysham M6 link road due to open next year?

Favourites put forward so far include John McGuinness Way, The Bay Expressway and the Bring Me Sunshine Way.

Chairman of Morecambe Town Council Darren Clifford said: “The County Council are asking for ideas of what the new M6 Link should be called when it opens next year.

“We’d like as many ideas as possible. Roads are usually named after a place a thing or a person.

“The ideas will then be looked at and then a shortlist will be put forward for a public vote.”

A Facebook page has been set up calling for TT legend John McGuinness to open the M6 link road.

North West Honda Lancaster have approached Lancashire County Council about the idea of McGuinness leading a charity ride out of local bikers in support of St John’s Hospice to open the link road.

Visit https://www.facebook.com/darren.clifford.79 and put forward suggestions for names for the Heysham M6 link road by Friday, December 11 which will then be passed onto Lancashire County Council.

A panel will then shortlist the top five names which will be put to a public vote early in the New Year with the official name announced in March 2016.

At tonight’s meeting of Morecambe Town Council, councillors will be considering whether to submit a suggested name to the county council for the new link road by the closing deadline of December 11.
