A group of horse riders will ride naked through Morecambe to highlight the danger of equestrian sports.

Sharon Monks has organised the protest as part of the Slow Down for my Horse campaign, to highlight the dangers some riders are facing.

More than 30 people will ride naked on horseback from York Bridge through the town centre on Saturday September 12 at noon.

The group hope to make a big impact as they feel the lack of facilities for horse riders is getting out of hand.

Sharon said: “We have got nowhere and often vehicles can bump into our horses.

“We ended up down by Salt Ayre the other day and there was a man on his bike swearing at us to move, saying we shouldn’t be here and I had children with us.

“The children were training for a little competition, cyclists are training for their sport but there are no facilities in Morecambe for horse riders.

“Everybody seems to think anyone who has a horse grew up with a silver spoon in their mouth.

“We are going to be a bit of a nuisance during the protest and that is why I want to apologise to good road users.”
