MP cuts ribbon on Storth community venture

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron this week cut the ribbon at the official launch of the Storth Community Cooperative Post Office, which will be staffed entirely by volunteers.

Former postmaster Rob Crompton was present, as well as some of the new volunteer staff and the post office’s oldest customer, who is 97.

The community shop, staffed by volunteers, has been going for 12 years and in that time has given over £60,000 of its profits to village causes. The Post Office , which is near Arnside, will now be an extension of this initiative.

Mr Farron said: “This is a great community initiative, which will help to ensure that a crucial service is retained for local people. I’d like to thank Rob Crompton for his dedication to this service, and to thank all who have been involved in making this project a reality and helping to open a new chapter for Storth Post Office.”
