The full list is:

• Burnham-on-Sea

• Castletown in Sunderland

• Clevedoned

• Little Hulton

• Northallerton

• Oldbury

• Shildon

• Streatham

• Tyldesley

The group declined to comment on when these stores will close their doors for good.

Chief executive David Potts said last week the decision was made “with great regret”, but added there was no way to make the affected stores “viable”.

He also admitted the supermarket chain faced a “long journey” to improve its fortunes, with pre-tax profits having almost halved in six months.

Morrisons also offloaded 140 M local convenience stores to entrepreneur Mike Greene as it bids concentrate on its larger supermarkets.

Mr Greene pledged there would be no job losses as a result of the deal.
