MORECAMBE VINTAGE: A few ways to spend your vintage weekend

There is so much going on at this weekend’s Vintage-by-the-Sea festival. Here are some highlights.

PLANES, BIKES and AUTOMOBILES

One of the flagship happenings at Vintage will be the fly-pasts on Saturday, weather permitting. A Lancaster Bomber, Hurricane and Spitfire are due to zoom over the bay, starting at around 12.40pm. There is also a Spitfire static display on grass behind the Midland both days. If two-wheelers are more your thing, try the Vintage bike ride on Saturday starting from behind the Midland. Bring your bike and book on the day at 11.30am. Classic car lovers can check out a display on the Midland car park on Saturday, and then the vehicles from the Bradford to Morecambe car rally will arrive on Sunday.

MUSIC

Rock ‘n’ rollers will put on their blue suede shoes for the Let it Rock day at the Platform on Saturday afternoon. Then in the evening, the Platform will become Morecambe’s answer to The Hacienda for an evening of house and dance music called The Warehouse. On Sunday the venue will be taken over by soul fans for the Soul Casino all-dayer. Tickets available for all three events from skiddle.com. Meanwhile, free music comes from the Charity Shop DJ outside the back of the Midland, where you can ‘choose your cheese’ by selecting a classic record to play from boxes of vinyl. There is also live music on the Melodrome stage all weekend in the Promenade Gardens and DJs playing on the top deck of the Routemaster bus bar.

Face painting and a vintage play area in the Promenade Gardens, donkey rides from behind the Midland, Punch & Judy in the hotel car park and classic fairground rides in The Dome basin are just a selection of what’s on offer for your little ones.

VINTAGE FUN

You can sample traditional afternoon tea at the Midland from noon to 2pm, both days (£19, book on 428000) or maybe go for a vintage makeover with Guys and Dolls boutique (Midland Hotel lobby, both days, 11am to 5.15pm, book on 01524 61984). The vintage marketplace also returns, this time in a marquee on the Midland car park.

FOOD

If you need to eat, then there will be a huge variety of street food stalls available near the festival venues.

CINEMA

A new attraction this year is the Vintage cinema at Winter Gardens.

Northern Soul, 7.30pm, Thursday and Saturday

Breakfast at Tiffany’s, 7.30pm, Friday (both £10 (£9 concessions) plus booking fee

Alice in Wonderland, noon, Saturday, £6.50 (5.50 concessions) plus booking fee
