Morecambe theft victims pay £150 to get bike back from pound

Tina Beck and her partner Gareth Cureton say they have become victims twice, once after the theft of their bike from West End Road in Morecambe, and again having to fork out to get their Honda CBR 125 back.

Tina, 29, who works as a hygiene manager, said: “I had to pay for someone to steal my stuff. Now we have lost our property and £150.

“The police stopped the bike with no registration plates and the thieves ran off.

“The police didn’t manage to catch them. The bike gets used for work and if I need nappies or essentials for my young children.

“The bike is an absolute write off and we have had to sell it for £50 for spares and repairs.

“I’m pretty cross. We can’t afford to get our own transport now and have to rely on public transport and my mum.

“I’m not blaming the police but I am writing a letter of complaint.

“It’s not my mistake but someone else’s stupidity to steal my property.

“We just want to make people aware of what can happen to their property when it is stolen.”

The bike was stolen at 11.30pm on January 9 from West End Road, Morecambe.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “Having found the motorbike during the early hours of Sunday, January 10, we visited the registered address of the owner.

“Despite several attempts to contact the owner, there was no response from inside the property.

“The bike was then passed onto a recovery company.

“The owner contacted us around 8am on Sunday and we provided them with the details of the recovery company to arrange the motorbike’s return.”
