Morecambe '˜robo girls' get well connected

A team from Morecambe Community High School calling themselves the MiniMeRoboGirls won a Best Presentation and Final Pitch award at the CISCO Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester Regional Final of the Little BIG Awards.

They also came second overall in the contest at Brockholes, Preston, losing out by just one point.

Little BIG Awards enable students aged 11 to 14 to show how they think life could be made better by connecting everyday things together through the internet.

The girls, seven from Year 7 and three from Year 10, had to develop an idea where they had to ‘Connect the Unconnected’.

The Year 10 girls have been mentored by Matthew Fogg, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassador from aerospace firm BAE Systems who has been working on their project management and team building skills on a Friday after school.

The Year 7 girls have been meeting on a Thursday after school to work on their project which is led by the Year 10 girls.

They had planning meetings, researched their idea, created a business plan and a presentation, and even came into school for a day during half-term to record an advert and a prototype for their entry.
