Morecambe mum pays tribute to beloved soul mate

A Morecambe mum has paid tribute to her beloved soulmate who was a fantastic dad and grandad.

Heather Buckel has spoken of her admiration for her husband Mick who was a “family man” and a “man of many talents.”

Mick passed away at the age of 64-years-old at his home on Roedean Drive, Torrisholme on Wednesday July 29.

Heather and Mick were married for 35 years and met in a pub called the Double Six in Basildon.

The former bus driver for Stagecoach was born on February 7 in 1951 in Accrington and his passions for driving gave the family many experiences and life-long friends.

Heather said: “He loved family time with the grandchildren and his children Michael and Selena. He was in the Royal Navy for four years and after that he decided to set up his own transport company, which had a 16 seater mini bus, 21 seater coach and at one point he had a Rolls Royce for wedding hire.

“He loved driving, before we met he was a road manager for Mac and Katie Kissoon and the Kissoon family have remained very firm friends with us.”

Mick was diagnosed with multiple system atrophy which is a progressive neurological disorder in December 2012.

It is caused by degeneration of nerve cells in several areas of the brain, which can result in problems with balance and automatic body functions.

Heather left her job at Diamond Resorts to become Mick’s full time carer.

Heather said: “We knew in some respects we could have been on borrowed time but we didn’t think it was as borrowed as it was.

“We would like to thank everybody for their support, it has been quite humbling. I shall miss a lovely man.”

Selena Berry said: “My dad was the most kind and generous person and I love him with all my heart.”

Mick’s funeral will be held on Thursday August 20 at 2.45pm at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium. The family are accepting donations to the MSA Trust in at
