The MP for Morecambe has called for a debate into the security of MPs while paying tribute to Jo Cox.
David Morris was speaking after Mrs Cox, the MP for Batley and Spen in West Yorkshire, was killed after being shot and stabbed following a surgery in Birstall in her constituency on Thursday.
“I was truly shocked and horrified by yesterday’s news,” said Mr Morris.
“Regardless of politics this was a woman, a wife and a mother who was gunned down carrying out her job.
“I hope in time once the full facts of what happened are known this triggers a review and a debate about MPs’ security but now I think our thoughts and prayers need to be with Jo’s family, her husband and her two children at this terrible time.”
A 52-year-old man, named locally as Tommy Mair, has been arrested following the attack on Mrs Cox.
