A woman was rescued from the mud in Morecambe Bay after becoming stuck 200m from the shore on Saturday, August 2.

The 28-year-old was out walking her dog near Half Moon Bay in Heysham when she became stuck at around 11.34am.

A specialist water rescue crew from Lancaster Fire Station and the RNLI were called out to the woman who was in a state of distress but uninjured.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) said that fortunately the tide was out at the time.

The fire service in partnership with the RNLI have recently started a summer safety campaign to warn residents and visitors about the dangers of quicksand in Morecambe Bay.
