Morecambe and Heysham Sea Cadets to celebrate birthday in style

Since 1942 the unit has given thousands of young people across the district a great head start in life through nautical adventure and fun.

Volunteers and cadets plan to celebrate on June 25 by holding a small celebration during the Thursday parade night at Halton Training Camp.

They have invited parents to join them for a ‘getting to know you’ evening including a barbecue, music and a cake decorating competition.

Lieutenant (SCC) Arthur Bailey RNR, the officer in charge, is thrilled to have stepped in to command in such a pivotal time in their journey as a unit.

He said: “We’re having a fantastic year so far! Recently, we have taken part in the Lakeland District Rowing Regatta; where both teams came in the top three.

“We’ve also been involved in the Honour Guard for HM Queen Elizabeth II’s royal visit to Lancaster and have been on a tour of HMS Lancaster during its stay in Liverpool.

“We also have plenty of fundraising events planned to help expand the facilities and activities our unit has to offer for both current and future members of our Sea Cadet family.”

The national charity, Sea Cadets, which is celebrating their 159th birthday, have had another great year and were thrilled to commission a brand new tall ship to replace the former flag ship.

The new vessel will support 900 young people on a week long voyage at sea every year.
