More royal street parties planned

TWO more streets in the Lancaster district have lodged applications to close roads so they can hold street parties to celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Parties will be held in Gloucester Avenue, Scotforth, and Townley Street in Morecambe, on Friday, April 29, if the applications, submitted in the final week before Lancaster City Council’s deadline, are approved.

Mayor of Lancaster, Coun Tony Wade, had told of his surprise that the authority had received only one application, to close Norwood Drive in Torrisholme for a party, with just a week to go before its deadline.

That closure has now been approved.

Proposals for the party in Gloucester Avenue, between the A6 and Durham Avenue, have been drawn up by Sarah Bland, who is planning a joint celebration which will also mark the sixth birthday of her son Ethan a few days earlier.

There would be barbecues on her driveway, tables of food in the road, party games, face painting and bunting made by local children.
