A popular Lancaster literary event is celebrating 200 performances this weekend.

Spotlight at The Storey presents the best in local literature, poetry and music on Friday, September 20, from 8pm.

The line up includes poetry from Carla Scarano, co-founder of Lancaster Stanza group.

Carla published a poetry pamphlet, A Winding Road, in 2011. She is inspired by her memories, encounters and different cultures.

Also on the literary line up is Miss P, who has received rave reviews of her “straight from the heart” poetry, read with such passion that they bring smiles, tears, laughter, and rage. She covers topics from love and life to social injustice and riots.

Writer, teacher and filmmaker Simon Sylvester has written more than 1,300 very short stories on Twitter, and his first novel will be published by Quercus in 2014.

He is interested in the spaces where fantasy and reality collide.

Music comes from Kriss Foster and Friend, fresh from their stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and singer songwriter Paddy Garrigan, a long-time friend of Spotlight.

Compere is Simon Baker. Doors open at 8pm, and there is an open mic from 8.30pm to 9pm. Entry is £4 and £2 for students, unwaged and concessions.

Founded in December 1995 Lancaster Spotlight is funded by Arts Council England, The Big Lottery Fund and

supported by Morecambe Town Council.
