Memorial to light up for awareness
The Ashton Memorial will be lit up to mark Down Syndrome Awareness Week next week.
World Down Syndrome Day is March 21, and DS Awareness Week is March 20-26, and the memorial will be lit up courtesy of BCL lighting in the colours of blue and yellow to raise awareness of Down syndrome.
The date for Down Syndrome Awareness Day was picked as being the 21st day of the third month, to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
North Lancashire Down Syndrome Parents and Carers Group meets the first Saturday of every month, 10am until noon, at Unique Kids and Co, Woodhill Lane, Morecambe.
