The Lancaster Guardian and BiG Storage’s Christmas Toy appeal is now well under way and we have been delighted with the initial response since the appeal was launched last week by TV celebrity and comedy funny man Jason Manford.
Morecambe’s very own Christie the Cat from the Morecambe Football Club has visited the BiG Storage facility in Northgate on White Lund Industrial Estate to see how many toys have arrived for this year’s appeal.
Christie was stunned to see how generous the community and Guardian readers have been so far and it is believed even this early on in the appeal that we are on course to beat last year’s record of more than 5,000 toys.
The appeal is looking for new gifts for children from babies up to those of 16 years of age.
These presents need to be unwrapped so the right gift can be selected for the chosen child.
Paul Whittaker, BiG Storage’s community liaison manager, said “We have been truly astounded over the years at readers’ generosity and we never fail to be touched by individual stories as well as local businesses who go out of their way to help the local charities selected for this year’s BiG appeal.”
Steven Allen Stout MBE from JUMP, one of the charities the appeal helps, added: “The toys form part of our annual Christmas memory which we host for children who are challenged with life threatening conditions and disabilities.
“For those families this is an event that brings some much needed happiness during difficult times.
“The support you provide is a very integral part of the memory.”
Alongside JUMP, the appeal’s other chosen charities which will benefit include The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, who help children throughout the north west, and CAPSS (Children and Parent Support Service) who are based here in the Lancaster and Morecambe area.
BiG Storage is located in Northgate and can be contact on 01524 65272.
