Market move challenged

A DECISION to investigate housing Lancaster Market traders within the city museum could be reviewed after it was “called in” by five city councillors.

Lancaster City Council’s overview and scrutiny committee will next Wednesday decide whether to refer the decision back to cabinet for review following the call in by Conservative councillors Roger Mace and Susan Bray and Labour members Roger Sherlock, John Harrison and Ron Sands.

They say cabinet did not consider how the conversion would affect Lancaster City Museum, failed to show how the move would reduce the £500,000 annual deficit the council faces on the existing market hall building and had not been given an option of investigating alternative sites.
