A man became trapped under the dashboard of his car after a serious road crash near Hornby.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the accident between a large goods vehicle and a Volkswagon Golf at Farleton and found the male driver of the Golf trapped.
Due to the severe impact they could only get into the vehicle via the rear doors.
The front doors and roof had to be removed to allow paramedics to assess the driver’s condition.
Firefighters had to move the dashboard away from the driver to release his legs.
The impact was so significant that the dashboard had been pushed back and around trapping the driver.
The driver was released after a difficult rescue and taken to Preston by air ambulance.
The accident happened at 1.41pm on Tuesday, March 10.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Lancaster district has the highest road traffic collision incidents in the county and we would like to get the message out to drive carefully and reduce speed.”
