Man rescued from sea for third time

A man who walked into the incoming tide for the third time had to be rescued by Morecambe’s RNLI hovercraft.

The hovercraft was launched at 1.26pm on Saturday, November 29, after a request from the police and coastguard to assist in the recovery of the man.

The local man had walked out into the incoming tide approximately 500 yards south of the Stone Jetty in Morecambe.

The volunteer hovercraft crew, with a police officer on board, intercepted the man, whom they had recovered from the sea on two previous occasions earlier in the week.

After assisting him into the hovercraft, they returned him to the hovercraft station where he was met by police officers before being transferred into the care of a waiting ambulance crew.

Morecambe RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Kevin Jackson, said: “Although it is frustrating that we repeatedly need to go to the assistance of the same person, our only concern is to keep the casualty safe from harm.”
