The hovercraft was launched at 11.02am on Thursday, November 27, to assist the police and local coastguard teams in recovering the local man, described as in ‘despondent mood’ who was attempting to walk out into the incoming tide approximately 300 yards south of the Stone Jetty in Morecambe.

The volunteer hovercraft crew managed to intercept the man, whom they had only recovered from the sea the previous day, before he entered the water.

They were able to persuade him to climb into the hovercraft so that they could return him to the promenade where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance.

Morecambe RNLI Deputy Launching Authority and Press Officer, Colin Midwinter, said: “It is inevitable that the need to go to the assistance of the same person on successive days will invite comment from others, but our only concern is to keep the casualty safe from harm and, again, we successfully achieved that.”
