Morecambe’s RNLI volunteer inshore rescue hovercraft crew had to be diverted from a training exercise in Silverdale on Sunday October 4 at 4pm, after a request from the coastguard to go and help the injured man.

After locating the casualty, the volunteer crew gave him first aid treatment before he was transferred onto a stretcher and onto the hovercraft.

He was then taken to Arnside promenade, where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance crew.

Morecambe RNLI Senior Hovercraft Commander, Harry Roberts MBE, said: “By coincidence, we were on a training exercise in the immediate vicinity.

“We overheard our coastguard colleagues organising their response on the VHF radio and so were able to offer them our assistance.”
