Man remains in "extremely serious condition" after Bolton-le-Sands roof collapse

The man in his 40s was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance with life-threatening injuries after the fatal collapse at a home in Chapel Brow at around 1pm.

Today (February 9), Lancashire Police described his condition as "extremely serious". His colleague, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force said "enquiries are ongoing" and it is working with the Health and Safety Executive to investigate the fatal accident.

Yesterday, Lancashire Police issued the following statement.

"We were called at around 12.55pm today (Monday, February 8) to reports two people had been seriously injured at an address on Church Brow", said the force.

"We attended and found two men had been injured while carrying out building work at the address.

"One of the men, aged in his 20s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this awful time.

"The second man, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment for life-threatening injuries and he remains in an extremely serious condition.

"We are working with colleagues at the Health and Safety Executive, though the matter remains with police while enquiries are carried out into the cause of the incident."

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said three fire crews were called to the scene.

A spokesman said: " At 12.54pm, three fire engines from Bolton-le-Sands, Carnforth and Morecambe attended a collapsed structure incident in Bolton-le-Sands.

"Fire crews were in attendance along with Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service."
