A Morecambe man accused of murdering a bus driver has made a preliminary appearance in court.

Gareth Luke Mason, 26, of Westminster Road, appeared at Preston Crown Court via video-link on Thursday.

He is charged with stabbing Adam Stirrup, 28, in the early hours of Sunday morning at Stud Farm Holiday Park in Heysham. Mr Stirrup later died in hospital of his injuries.

Katrina Rudrum, 26, was also stabbed and remains in Royal Blackburn Hospital where her condition was serious but stable.

Mr Mason will return to court on October 23 for a plea and case management hearing. A trial date has been reserved for January 6 2014.

Meanwhile police officers have recovered a knife from bushes along Westcliffe Drive, close to the scene.

They believe it may have been the weapon used in the murder and it will now be forensically examined to determine any link.
