Man charged over ex-Morecambe store worker death

A MAN has been charged with the murder of a former Morecambe store worker at an event organised by smartphone giant BlackBerry.

Ashley Charles, 25, from Leicester, is charged following the death of 37-year-old father-of-two Philip Sheriff, of Scorton, from a bottle attack at the event, on April 4.

Married Mr Sherriff, who worked at the Morrisons store on Central Drive as a supervisor in the mid-to-late 1990s, died in hospital on April 8 following the attack at the Pulse nightclub in Southwark shortly after a performance from pop star Jessie J.

Mr Charles was originally charged with attempted murder, but the charge was changed following the telecommunications worker’s death.

Mr Charles will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on April 25.
