Make your bathroom recycling a routine

A national study has found that making the extra effort to put bottles and packaging from the bathroom in the right bin is one of the best things people can do to boost recycling.

After a decade of strong growth, UK household recycling rates have levelled off, with Lancashire residents recycling 45.7pc in 2016/17. Lancashire County Council is supporting a campaign which aims to get recycling rates on the up again by asking everyone to adopt a simple system to make bathroom recycling an everyday habit.

County Councillor Charlie Edwards, lead member for health and adult services, said: “Everybody has an important part to play by making some small changes if we are to conserve our beautiful planet.

“We know people find it more difficult to recycle bathroom items, but we’re asking them to make the extra effort as the benefits would be really big.

“So much in the bathroom can be recycled – plastic shower gel and shampoo bottles, spray cleaner and bleach bottles, aerosol cans, and cardboard toothpaste boxes and toilet roll tubes.

“If more people recycled these things it could really make a difference and take Lancashire’ recycling rates to the next level.”
