Lord-Lieutenant's honour for army volunteer and cadets
Sergeant Major Instructor William Barton, 41, was awarded Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate of Merit, recognised as a laudatory honour throughout the Armed Services, in recognition of his service with Lancashire Army Cadet Force.
Cadet Sergeants Rachel Horsfield, 17, and Benjamin Wilson, 16, were appointed Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets for Lancashire, one of the highest honours a cadet can achieve.

William joined the Army Cadet Force in 1989 and has conducted various recruitment drives to ensure the detachment in Garstang stayed open. He has also been a keen supporter of the Poppy Appeal.
He said: ‘I am still in shock after being informed I was to receive this award. It’s fantastic to receive recognition for doing something I’ve always enjoyed doing – I’m lost for words.’
Rachel joined the Combined Cadet Force contingent at Kirkham Grammar School in 2013. Benjamin joined the Army Cadets in 2012, as soon as he was old enough.
