THE ultimate tale of young love will be played out by boys and girls from Lancaster’s two grammar schools at a Lancaster theatre from March 7-10.

Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet will be given a 21st century twist and modern musical accompaniment when it is staged at the Dukes.

The entire cast is drawn from Lancaster Girls and Lancaster Royal Grammar Schools.

A-level students Charlie Robb and Ruby Henderson will play the star-crossed lovers, while instead of a friar, two women priests will bring the pair together, reflecting the changes in the church since Shakespeare’s time.

The Capulet Ball will be set on board a cruise liner, The Verona, giving the cast a chance to dress up in ball gowns and tuxedos.

Director Helen Tozer said: “The production is very much about the young today, their stylishness, energy, humour and above all, capacity to feel intense emotion.”
