Landscapes and still life on show

LANCASTER City Museum is holding an exhibition of vibrant landscape and still life paintings by celebrated local artist Paula Velarde.

Paula, who passed away last year at the age of 70, had lived in Dolphinholme since the early 1980s. She drew much of her inspiration from the local landscape.

Heather Dowler, manager at Lancaster City Museum, said: “The exhibition is titled Light and Colour, which is particularly apt. Paula liked to paint outside in all weathers, and her delight in her surroundings, especially the changing colours of the seasons, is evident in all of her work.

“She exhibited widely in the North West including at the Manchester Academy. Her work is held in the public collections in Bolton and Birkenhead. She was a wonderful painter who is very much missed in the local area.”

This exhibition runs until July 4.

The City Museum is run by Lancashire County Council on behalf of Lancaster City Council. Opening hours are from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Admission is free.
