Lancaster University to hold biggest ever conference


Hoteliers, restaurateurs and traders are advised to be on stand-by when Lancaster University hosts its largest international academic conference ever with around 950 delegates expected to visit the city.
The European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST) Conference will run from Wednesday, July 25 to Saturday, July 28.

Hide AdDr Lisa Wood, one of the EASST Conference organisers at Lancaster University, said: “The biennial EASST Conference is a major international conference that will attract a large number of visitors from across Europe and beyond to Lancaster this July.
“In addition to exchanging and furthering academic ideas around the conference theme, it will also provide a boost to the local economy, with many delegates staying in the City and hundreds of extra visitors looking to eat in Lancaster on each of the three nights.”

With the theme of ‘Meetings’, the conference attendees will explore how society, politics, culture, technologies, people and values affect our lives, and our relationships with others.

Hide AdThe conference will also include a Public Lecture entitled “Meeting Energy” where a panel of experts will discuss current debates in energy provision. To register for the lecture, held at Lancaster Town Hall at 5.30pm on Thursday, July 26, email [email protected].
An exhibition by artist Louise Wilson, a scenographer, visual artist and researcher, will be held on campus in the Peter Scott Gallery, to accompany the conference.
The exhibition marks the beginning of a year-long relationship between Louise and Lancaster Arts.
